According to the Economist, Sam “Joe” the Plumber has a list of book recommendations in this week’s American Spectator. I don’t know whether it reflects more poorly on conservatism as a whole or the American Prospect as a distinct entity, but it definitely reflects poorly on someone. Anyway, Sam “Joe” lists  three books on plumbing — everyone’s guilty pleasure — and naturally, The Theory of Money and Credit by Ludvig von Mises.

The Theory of Money and Credit (Ludwig von Mises): “It brought monetary theory into the mainstream of economic analysis. It is important reading for these troubled times.”

I’m honestly taken aback by the sheer testicular fortitude Sam “Joe” must have summoned to make this recommendation. You just kind of have to tip your hat when someone can say something like that with a straight face. I mean, I honestly can’t think of an equal example of such audacious bullshittery. Maybe O.J.’s quest to find the real killers? And on another note, if we take this at face value, wasn’t this the same man who bemoaned the liberal media and presented himself as the paradigm of working class America? Sounds a bit elitist to me.

Anyway, because I couldn’t find a better place to put it, the Economist brings the righteous snark:
