The yellow sliver, according to the Department of Energy, would be the net effect of expanded drilling in the United States. Please note that foreign oil would still constitute a tremendous portion of US oil consumption, leaving us roughly as susceptible to foreign instability as we would be without drilling. Please also note that drilling would not begin to have any effect until roughly 2017, underscoring the point that drilling is not only untenable as energy policy for the future, but also untenable as a short term solution.
It’s also worth mentioning that thus far, this is literally the only remotely specific solution proposed by Sarah Palin, who according to John McCain, “knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America.” Probably indeed.
