It does seem pretty clear with a Palin pick that Republicans are trying to play the Democrats’ game. I’ll just point out that the Democrats tried this strategy by nominating Kerry in 2004. Obviously, the parallel isn’t an exact fit, but it’s definitely an appeal to a perceived weakness (in this case, the large weakness that people dislike the Republican party) by addressing it with a band-aid instead of engaging the root issues in a serious way.

Yes, it’s very similar to Obama’s choice of Biden as his VP. Both candidates have chosen VPs who shore up some of their weaknesses.
Hmmmmm…Kind of sounds like they’ve both done what used to be done when picking a VP.
